My Trip to Rachel Nevada and The Extraterrestrial Highway

Rachel Nevada is located about 150 miles north of Las Vegas. It's a lonely little place out in the middle of desert mountain ranges on a stretch of highway 375, also known as the Extraterrestrial Highway. We drove out on this Sunday morning leaving Vegas at approximately 2:30 a.m. hoping to catch a glimpse or a photo or two of some strange flying craft, but alas, no such luck this night. What we did find was an area of beauty that one has to see first hand to experience. The silence, lack of auto traffic, was just awesome. On the return trip we stopped in at the world famous Little Ale Inn cafe and bar for a little friendly conversation, and a surprisingly delicious breakfast bar. Pat and Joe, the owners where on hand, as well as a few of the regular locals. Conversation is relaxed, and folks like Pat make you feel right at home, and very comfortable. Locals talk mostly of the fantastic sights of watching the Air force aerial war games in the nearby mountain ranges, as well as sharing their sightings of what most feel are super secret advanced military aircraft, commonly called U.F.O.s by most. Area 51 is also a big topic, though many feel activity from this area may have slowed just a bit in recent years. It is rumored the the highly advanced E.T. reverse engineering programs might have been moved up into Utah, in another very remote area. May 12th marks Rachel Days, when locals hope to share their celebration with hundreds of tourists. Pat tells me that although many are attracted to Rachel days to share in some U.F.O. folklore, the event was originally designed by the townspeople to celebrate the days when they first got electricity, and officially named the little town.
